Knitspirations

Knuts about Knitting!

We’re leaving on a jetplane! March 27, 2008

This weekend we’re off to the Apple Isle to visit with family. When we get back “Knitspirations” will open! YAY!

I’ve been knitting in preparation for this trip for a while. Thom has a new hat (it was his Easter present); and a lovely coat (a gorgeous Debbie Bliss pattern). I realised I didn’t have a warm hat at all! Not even a shop bought (blasphemy!) beanie! So with 3 days until we leave, I’ve started knitting myself a new hat in my favourite colour and if all things go to plan, it will turn out like this:

Here is Thom’s hat as well!

Beep Beep went the Easter Bunny! March 22, 2008

My little boy has trouble with a lot of dairy products so this year for Easter he’s getting a couple of dark choccies and a new hat to keep his head snuggly when we go to Tasmania to visit his Nanny and Poppy at the end of the month.

Thom is MAD about cars so I expect smiles in the morning :)

It’s not a design I’ve done before as I’ve been building up stock for Knitspirations. I’m really happy with it, though, so I hope to make it and some variants for my store soon!

Debbie Bliss’ Double Breasted Toddler Coat for Jenna March 12, 2008

Poor little Jenna, Dale and Lily have been SO patient waiting for me to knit their coats and jumpers for Winter 08. To begin with, their coats and jumpers were my only WIPs (works in progress) but then I had my idea of Knitspirations and they had to take a momentary back seat.

Finally Jenna’s coat is finished and ready to be posted to her! :) After searching high and low for the perfect buttons, I finally found them in my local Spotlight (despite having looked there already grrr!) and I think they suit the wool perfectly. The wool is “Classic Wool” in “Cayenne” from Bendigo Woollen Mills.

There is SO much work in these coats but they are so worth the effort. I hope Jenna thinks it was worth the wait!

Kool-Aid Kapers March 3, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I decided it had been far too long since I hand painted some wool. I usually use my Landscape dyes but when I last visited my friend, Shannon who is from Canada, she gave me some Kool-Aid sachets. She thought I wanted them to drink! lol

I mixed them up to the ratio of one sachet to 250ml (without adding sugar), soaked the wool in preparation and then got a-dyeing. I just really played around with the technique and soaked, applied with a nurofen syringe (!!) and dipped. I then set the dye in the microwave, rinsed, dried and then voila! Here are the photos :)

Hats off to ya baby! March 3, 2008

Here is a sneak peak of the hats soon to feature on Knitspirations. I will be including sizes and measurements once they are up on WAHMania but will just add photos and a little description here for now.

All hats are made from 100% natural materials. Since we are heading into winter, the hats will mostly be made from wool or alpaca or sometimes a blend. All hats are handknitted and hand embroidered by myself and given toddler approval by my little guy. Multi coloured wools are hand dyed or hand-painted by myself.
