Bootitudes! Booties with attitude. May 26, 2008

Filed under: Knits for Knitspirations — knitspirations @ 1:51 pm

“What do you make and sell?”

“I knit and sell…er…children’s knitted garments”.

Groan

“No, really! They’re cool and fun!”

“Er….suuuuuuuuure”.

I really hate the stereotypes that knitting has attached to it. Well perhaps except for the “every knitter must have a cat” one, because, well, that’s just nice and who WOULDN’T have a cat!

I usually have to show a friend something I’ve knitted before they’ll admit that, ok, maybe I’m not a big nerd after all ;)

Now. Booties. Daggy? Can be :s But these ones?! They have attitude! They’re “bootitudes”! Daggy name, adorable shoes ;)

They are, of course, based on Saartje’s Bootees . However I’ve used 3.75mm with Moda Vera Bamboo/Cotton. This yarn, seriously, is the lushest thing I’ve ever knitted with. It’s thick, squishy, silky and if I had enough yarn, I’d seriously be knitting myself some bootitudes! It is very splitty, in that the 16 or so ply of the yarn have the annoying tendency to split apart during knitting. Saartje suggests using 4ply, but since this yarn is actually about 10ply, the size of the bootee is much larger.

These should be in Knitspirations soon! Yay!

One Knit Wonders May 22, 2008

Filed under: Knits for Knitspirations — knitspirations @ 9:34 am

My “One Knit Wonders” are going up today and I’m really proud of them. I drafted the pattern myself and designed the concept from scratch :)

“OKW” are a knitting bag for single knitting projects. Rather than having one large knitting bag tangled with all of your projects, OKWs help you keep track of each individual project or give you a quick to access place to keep your current one. It fits a project from a 200gram ball snuggly or a project from a 100g ball with room to spare.

There will be more colours and sizes coming soon :)

“Amy Butler” One Knit Wonder

~made from unique Amy Butler quilting fabric and blue cotton/linen fabric. Fully lined with cotton/linen.

“Brown Cord” One Knit Wonder

~made from dark brown sequinned linen and tan coloured corduroy. Fully lined with tan corduroy.

Crazy about Cables May 22, 2008

Filed under: Knits for Family, Knits for Knitspirations — knitspirations @ 9:20 am

As a knitter I’ve avoided any really complicated cabled patterns for quite some time now. The idea of a cable needle scared me! Conquering purling continental style (check out www.knittinghelp.com)  is hard enough surely!

But since joining Ravelry (button on the right hand side bar) I saw many beautiful cabled pieces and was determined to give it a try. So far, I’m really enjoying it! I’m currently playing around designing a “Coffee Cozy” for myself and also cabling some size 18 months longies for Knitspirations.

Cabling, with a little patience, toddler free time and lots of concentration, really isn’t that hard and the results are definitely worth it!

Button Tab Toddler Hat – Original Knitspirations’ Design May 13, 2008

Filed under: Knits for Knitspirations — knitspirations @ 6:33 pm

It doesn’t look like much now, but this hat is knitting up beautifully! I’m knitting it for Knitspirations and it will be for the older toddler – 3 years plus.

It’s knitted from “Deb’s Two Left Feet” Handpainted Peruvian Merino. It’s an absolute dream to knit with. It’s soooooooo soft and very very patt-able! :P I was given this wool in a swap online and I can’t for the life of me find a stockist anywhere. I wish I could because I’d love to add more Deb’s Two Left Feet to my yarn stash! All I’ve found are a couple of random mentions of the wool but nothing alluding to where you can buy it. :(

I’ve designed the pattern myself and drew inspiration (sorry…..knitspiration ;) ) from similar hats I’ve seen on Ravelry. The idea of the hat is that the garter stitch “brim” of that hat is accented with a “one of a kind” (still to be found!) button.

I expect to be finished it within the next couple of days and have it in stock soon thereafter!!

Here it is, ready to be added to our stock this Tuesday 20th May!!
