Knuts about Knitting!

Spring/Summer items coming soon! July 31, 2008

Filed under: Knits for Knitspirations — knitspirations @ 11:21 am

Here I will be keeping track and posting updates on the upcoming spring and summer stock for Knitspirations.

Some of the designs you can expect to see in September include:

  • Soakers for boys knitted from my own design – embellished and plain; handpainted yarn and solid colours.
  • Girls soakers knitted from my  “Frilly Dudds” designs. These are adorable!!
  • Cotton hoodies for girls and boys – sleeveless and short sleeved.
  • Sundresses for girls with knitted or crocheted bodices and fabric skirts. These are SO pretty!
  • “Fuzzymitten” toys – oh so cuddly and original.
  • And of course my entire range of booties which I absolutely love making and have become a bit of a Knitspirations favourite amongst customers! :-D

So far I have some photos of some soakers and a GORGEOUS pair of booties – love them!

Updated 7/8/08

Some little dress bibs ready to have fabric skirts (of differing fullnesses) added:

This one needs some explaining because it looks downright odd! Sarcastic Tongue out This dress top is very “yoke like” (the top of a cardigan) and is crocheted. It was hard to photograph but basically the crocheted section acts as the yoke/top of the dress and when worn the sleeves will be sweet little cap sleeves.

Update 19th August 2008
The projects are all chooffing along nicely. Here are some new ones :)

A windy and cold Friday at the park July 20, 2008

Filed under: Random Blog Entry — knitspirations @ 8:53 pm

Friday was REALLY cold and windy but nothing deters Thom when the offer of a park trip is on the cards!

Mark and I took him to a park in Manly/Queenscliff. We bumped into a friend and her dog, Cowboy, a rescued blue heeler on the way and Thom had lots of practice jumping out of the way of oncoming scooter traffic. He found a lost Teddy and burst into tears at the thought of the poor teddy being abandoned – he’s a sensitive little pet. But then the teddy’s owner found him and Thom declared that the teddy was "all better! all fixed!".

Aww. Love Struck

I do!!! Big Grin I had a "winding" night the other night (after my re-dyeing day) and here are the results Love Struck

All of the wool is mostly 12ply Bendigo Woollen Mills Rustic wool. They’re all going to be made into some "Frilly Duds" soakers and also some boyish ones as well.

Mmmm wool!

I forgot to add these to my blog! Woops! Blushing

These little button loafers were made for Knitspirations in Bendigo Woollen Mills Rustic 12 ply in White and Denim. They were finished off with some cute little green apple buttons.

These were bought last week and are going to a new home this week.

Re-dyeing July 14, 2008

Filed under: Knits for Knitspirations — knitspirations @ 8:40 pm

My last dyeing attempt was one huge disaster! It was my first dyeing with black and things turned into a muddy ashy mess. Blugh.Sick

I knew I’d need to fix the disaster at some stage but I was scared of hurting it even more. I’ve been looking online lately at different dyeing attempts (hoping to avoid future disasters) and came across kettle dyeing and rainbow dyeing. I was about to dive head first into some rainbow dyeing when I realised I really should  bite the bullet and try and fix my ashy mess.

So…here goes…

This is the yucko mess soaking in a vinegar and water bath for about 40mins…you can see where the black didn’t "take" before

Blugh Sad

Armed with a jar of black food dye and Thom’s ratty paintbrush, which has been acting as "aaaaaaaairplane wings" stuffed through the windows of his toy cars, I decided I’d painstakingly re paint the black bits

Then I got impatient, which was really my downfall in the first place Blushing, and used the nurofen syringe to slowly drip the dye on and then smoosh it into the wool.

Looking good!!

And then I spilled the jar onto the wool! hahaha doh!  Crying

BUT it’s drying now and actually looks quite good! Batting Eyelashes

Vege garden! July 14, 2008

Filed under: Random Blog Entry — knitspirations @ 5:37 pm

I’ve been impati….I mean, patiently, waiting for Mark to build our vege garden. He started last weekend and today he was on a roll! Thom enjoyed getting in the way helping!!

The sandstone edging is where the old garden bed was/is and Mark is building the vege box/garden out of sleepers. My poor suffering herbs are in the hanging baskets.

Cute as a button July 14, 2008

Filed under: Custom Knitting Orders, Knits for Knitspirations, Knits for friends — knitspirations @ 5:14 pm

I’m making some wee booties for Kylee and the first pair are in red and navy blue. I chose cute little blue whale buttons to finish them off and much to my horror the HUGE packet of assorted buttons only had THREE whale buttons *waaaaaaaaaaah*. Who DOES that?! *hmph*

I guess I’ll just have to go to the yarn shop and get some more buttons. Oh darn, huff and bother **sarcasm!**.

Aren’t they cuuuuuuuuuute? I really think the buttons make them!

Excuse all of the photos – I was having fun with my camera’s macro setting :)

Here is the finished product, Kylee. Sadly I couldn’t get my hands on more whale buttons so had to replace them with apples. I think they’re just as cute though!

Seamingly bothersome knitting July 14, 2008

Filed under: Random Blog Entry — knitspirations @ 11:47 am

When I browse through Ravelry I often see people referring to their dislike of seaming. It CAN be a pain in the butt but when given a choice between a few seams or using circs for a small project I’ll vote for seams any day!

I’ve made close to a dozen pairs of “Boots with Attitude” and I can’t imagine anything worse that making them on either DPNs or magic loop to avoid the seams. There’s really only one long seam (or two if you do different colours) and I’ve perfected an almost undetectable seam. It resembles mattress stitch but instead of done on stocking stitch, it’s done on garter stitch.

I love magic loop for finishing off a hat, when it’s straight knitting, but when it’s a small project where you have to follow a pattern…no thanks! lol

A boy and his trucks July 13, 2008

Filed under: Random Blog Entry — knitspirations @ 10:39 pm

I just thought I’d share some sweet photos I got of my boy playing with his favourite things today – his trucks and cars and his Nanny’s dogs, Molly and Bonnie.
