Knuts about Knitting!

Two new colourways and three old ones December 4, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — knitspirations @ 3:07 pm

Today I’ve added two new 100g skeins to Ozebaby. The yarn bases on both is 100% Australian New Wool (12 ply). I am SO happy with both. They are incredibly strong, vivid and vibrant colours.

I called the first one “Coulis” (it reminds me of Raspberry and Lemon dessert sauce! Wink )

The second I call “Boiled Lollies”.

And both together for “pretty” sake Party

The three older colourways are also on 100% Australian New Wool but are in 200g skeins. The first two have gone to good homes and the 3rd is still available at Ozebaby.

Christmas projects December 4, 2008

Filed under: Knits for Family — knitspirations @ 2:47 pm

My poor poor blog, I have neglected you for far too long!!

A lot has been happening in my knitting and crocheting world. At the moment I am busy working on some Christmas gifts for my family as well as keeping up to date with sales and re-stocking.

First of all, photo time :)

As far as family gifts are concerned, a lot of my family is receiving some sort of crafted gift. I know it’s REALLY hot here in Australia at Christmas time, but I figure that the gifts can be used in winter or are just generally useful or cute!

My “grandad in-law” often visits my parents in law in Spreyton, Tasmania (near Devonport). It can get quite cool all year round there and FREEZING in winter so I decided a scarf was in order. I settled on the Irish Hiking Scarf  in BWM Classic 12 ply in Cherry Red. I’m using 5mm needles for this project. It’s coming along nicely. So so chunky and warm and suitably “manly”! (photos to come)

Next on the list was my little boy, Thomas. I feel so guilty when I particularly knit Barbara Prime’s Fuzzymitten toys for my shop and the end product doesn’t go to Thom. So I decided I’d make him a lamby for Christmas. I love working with colours and I know Thom won’t balk at an unconventionally coloured lamb, plus I really wanted to use the Debbie Bliss Cashermino Astrakhan and Berocco Peruvia that I have in my stash, so his lamby will be….er..RED :-) The lamby is in pieces and looking rather deflated and road killish at the moment so I have no photos right now.

My Aunty Janet has a condition called Scleroderma and feels the cold in her hands and feet all year round. My nan had a friend who used to make felted slippers for Jan. Nan’s friend passed away and I thought that I would step in and make something similar for Janet for Christmas this year. So far I’ve made a “Knot Scarf” (Janet is also a teacher – as am I – and I thought this would be handy during winter playground duty), a cowl/scollar (scarf/collar) that I sort of made up as I went along and a pair of crocheted slippers. Still on the agenda is another pair of crocheted slippers (I love the pattern) and possibly another Knot Scarf. This time, I have some photos!!

Now I can’t mention my sister’s present, because I know she sometimes reads my blog, but she is getting some woolly goodness at Christmas too. Some she has to do herself and something made by me to help her in that “doing”. ;-)

Hmm who’s next? I still owe mum a scarf from her July birthday *blush* and I’m in the process of knitting her a drop stitch scarf from The Knittery Merino DK. I’m just not enjoying knitting that pattern so I may frog it and find something else I enjoy more. I also plan on making her a clapotis from BWM Alpaca so maybe I’ll give her both for her next birthday. Bad daughter! lol

My mother in law is also owed a scarf from Mother’s Day. That’s MAY! Argh! I’m knitting her “Branching Out” in “Ava” 100% silk from Live 2 Knit in the Seaglass colourway. I don’t overly enjoy lace knitting (I make booboos and get cross at myself) so I tend to put them down a lot which leads to many an unfinished project! I did send her some mittens for her birthday though :) They’re made from BWM 12ply Rustic in Cayenne.

I THINK that’s all of the current Christmas projects!
